Ticketed walk through the giant panda breeding base north of the city: open-air enclosures, the moon and sun nursery houses where cubs are kept, and a bamboo restaurant. Pandas feed and move most in the early morning and sleep through the middle of the day.

A smaller panda reserve at the foot of Mount Qingcheng, run by the same conservation centre. Enclosures sit along a wooded valley path and the crowd is thinner than at the Chengdu base. Usually paired with Dujiangyan in one day.

The museum on the Sanxingdui site in Guanghan: the 3.96-metre bronze sacred tree, the gold mask, the bronze standing figure and the gold sceptre, in a new hall opened in 2023. Entry is real-name reservation only and there is no ticket window on site.

乐山大佛
A 71-metre Maitreya carved into the cliff above the confluence of three rivers, cut between 713 and 803. Two ways to see it: the nine-bend stairway down past the head to the feet, or a 40-minute boat that shows the whole figure from the water without climbing.
