Six places outside Chengdu, and the booking route is the thing that separates them. Dujiangyan and the front range of Mount Qingcheng share a rail line and cost CNY 80 each, an hour out. Sanxingdui is CNY 72 and the hardest: the museum sells through its own WeChat mini-program only, releasing tickets five days ahead at 20:00, with no counter on site. Leshan is CNY 80 to climb the nine-bend stairway or CNY 70 by boat, fifty minutes by train. The rear range of Qingcheng is CNY 32, and Bipeng Valley is the one that wants an overnight.

Leshan Giant Buddha
A 71-metre Maitreya carved into the cliff above the confluence of three rivers, cut between 713 and 803. Two ways to see it: the nine-bend stairway down past the head to the feet, or a 40-minute boat that shows the whole figure from the water without climbing.

Before you choose: Ctrip lists the hill ticket at CNY 80 covering the Buddha, Lingyun Temple, Wuyou Temple and the Mahao cliff tombs, CNY 40 for students and ages 6-17, free for over-60s, and the river boat at CNY 70 for a 40-minute pass with no climbing. Packages with fast-track entry, bilingual guiding and transfers run CNY 138-266, with the English guiding tier at CNY 198. The Trip.com page confirms 07:30-18:30 plus a 19:30-22:30 night session.
Dujiangyan Scenic Area
The 2,200-year-old irrigation works still dividing the Min River, walked end to end past the Fish Mouth, the Flying Sand Weir and the Bottle-Neck Channel. About an hour from Chengdu by intercity rail.

Sanxingdui Museum
The museum on the Sanxingdui site in Guanghan: the 3.96-metre bronze sacred tree, the gold mask, the bronze standing figure and the gold sceptre, in a new hall opened in 2023. Entry is real-name reservation only and there is no ticket window on site.
